JOB TITLE: Assistant Superintendent

 

GENERAL DESCRIPTION:

The Assistant Superintendent is responsible for providing substantial and effective assistance to the Superintendent in: developing, achieving, and maintaining the highest standards of education regarding the operation, supervision, and evaluation of instruction; special education; federal and state programs; educational technology; facility operations and maintenance; school nutrition; transportation; as well as division-wide school budgeting, student learning, and administrative service functions.

 

The Assistant Superintendent is responsible for ensuring the effective operation of all division-related initiatives based upon a clear shared vision and goals, while maintaining a positive work based climate by employing effective decision-making skills, properly managing and allocating resources which support critical work priorities that are inclusive of various communication aspects with division employees, parents and the community. Additionally, the Assistant Superintendent is accountable for providing leadership and fidelity in planning, evaluating, developing, implementing and maintaining services in compliance with established guidelines, procedures and state statutes. The Assistant Superintendent reports to the Superintendent and will serve as the Superintendent’s designee.

This is light work requiring the exertion of up to 10 pounds of force occasionally and a negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to move objects, and some light work requiring the exertion of up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, up to 10 pounds of force frequently, and a negligible amount of force constantly to move objects. Work requires reaching, pushing, and pulling, use of hands to grasp, handle or feel, fine manipulation, and repetitive motions. Vocal communication is required for expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word. Hearing is required to perceive information at normal spoken word levels. Visual acuity is required for preparing and analyzing written or computer data, operation of office equipment, determining the accuracy and thoroughness of work, and observing general surroundings and activities. The worker is not subject to adverse environmental conditions.

 

FLSA CLASSIFICATION:
Exempt

 

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
Doctorate of Education is preferred.
Certification and Licenses: Valid Commonwealth of Virginia Certification for Superintendent of Schools or the ability to obtain such certification.
Postgraduate professional license with an endorsement in Administration and Supervision PreK-12.
Minimum of three (3) years successful experience as a building-level administrator in a public school system.
Minimum of three (3) years successful experience in teaching.
Experience working as a central office administrator is preferred.
Clearances: Criminal Justice Fingerprint/Background Clearance.
Salary Schedule: TBD Based on Experience.
